How to move to Portugal in 2026 ?

I will basically tell you about those respectable visas which the Portuguese government basically gives a lot of value to, and their process also happens very quickly.
Now as you know, those middle-class level people, or those who wanted to come for work, or those who are from the labor category, or those who were already living in Europe — Portugal’s immigration had been open for quite a long time for them. They have done this file lock system, and even now Article 92, etc., is going on. In that, many people have taken TRC and legalized themselves, and the system is still running for many people who already had their file locks, etc.
But I will basically tell you about those respectable visas which the Portuguese government basically gives a lot of value to, and their process also happens very quickly. I am the biggest example of that — that is the D category visas. Like I myself came on a D7 visa.
On that, there was an appointment written, approximately you can say two months later. There is a link attached to that visa. So what happened, brother, when I went to attend that appointment — in that appointment, biometrics have to be given. I gave those. After that, within one week, the residence cards — which are for two years — were delivered home. So it happened so fast that now it’s been a month since I received the card already, okay? Now I can travel. I can also come back. You can travel all around the European Union, okay? And all the family cards also arrived — meaning everyone got their residence cards. So everything happened very quickly.
However, when I meet people here, people are still waiting for appointments and file locks and other methods for years and years. I didn’t have to go through all that. So that’s why I’m saying that the D category visas are highly prioritized by the government. The type of visa I got is a passive income visa. Passive income means you have income that comes without you having to actively work — for example, income from real estate, income from dividends, or you have money kept in the bank and you’re earning from it. So this type of income is called passive income.
Through this, your visa is also approved in Portugal. Even if you live in Pakistan, Dubai, anywhere, Turkey, or even within Europe — even if you live in the European Union or Schengen area, you can still apply for this Portuguese visa. D7, the one I’m talking about — so D7 is a passive income visa. Its requirements are not that high, and the visa is easily granted. And it’s a very good visa — it doesn’t even cost that much.
Then there’s the D8 visa — that’s for people who work online. Okay, the D7 visa requirement is that you should have a minimum income of €900 per month. If you include your family, then it increases, okay? Then there is the Digital Nomad Visa, which people also call the D8 visa. Although the embassy doesn’t call it D8, they call it D9, okay? But this Nomad Visa requires that your monthly income should be above €3000 online. If you are a freelancer or a remote worker, you can also apply for this, okay? You just need to provide the required documents, and you can also get this visa if you work online.
Then there is a D2 category visa. D2 visa — under this D category — is business-based. You can get it for a startup or by opening a company. You can start a normal business, but you need to submit a business plan, establish a company, open a company account, and deposit initial capital. So after doing all these things, you can then apply for a D2 visa. You can apply from Pakistan or from another country.
And these three are very good visa categories. Apart from that, there’s also a job visa — D3 visa. Then there’s a student visa — you can take that too. But these three investment-type visas, in which you make a little investment — D7, D8, D2, etc. — these are still available relatively easily, there’s not much problem.
And apart from Portugal, Spain also has a passive income visa, Italy also has one, Greece also has one, and apart from that, the business visa of the USA — the E2 visa — that is also available. So all these options are still available for Pakistanis who want to go based on business. And in these visas, you have to carefully review your situation and see your eligibility — whether you are eligible or not. If you’re not eligible, then it’s a waste of money to apply. You shouldn’t go for a program where you’re not eligible because the embassy checks everything very thoroughly, since these are permanent residence-type visas.
Because D2, D7, D8 — they are such that once you come here, you can practically get a passport through them. If you stay here for 5 years, you can. So that’s why they check every detail carefully.
So the point is, if you want to do it yourself, you can do it yourself, or if you want to do it through someone else, you can do that too. I’m not saying that you must do it through us. I just wanted to give you this information that the D category visas are still very good visas for coming to Portugal. Or Spain’s non-lucrative visa and Italy’s nomad visa — all these visas are available. But the easiest one is Portugal’s. This is still the case.
Look, in Portugal, the laws have changed. Many things have changed. There’s more strictness now. But even then, Portugal is still the easiest country, especially regarding D category visas.
