Top 20 in-demand jobs in Canada in 2026

You won’t believe it, but in Canada an ordinary cook can earn up to 65,000 dollars a year, and some professions can bring in as much as 280,000 dollars a year.
There are professions that open a direct road to a Canadian passport.
But there is one serious catch that can ruin everything.

Today we’ll break down 20 of the hottest professions for 2025. we’ll tell you who they’re ready to pay Silicon Valley–level salaries to, who is offered a job even before moving, and at the end we’ll show you how to get to Canada even if your profession is not on this list. Read until the end — there will be a bomb.

The entire list is based on official data. Job Bank is Canada’s main employment website. We also added data from immigration programs. All salaries are in Canadian dollars, which is roughly 25% lower than U.S. dollars.

An important point: We will name average market salaries. In reality, you can earn even more. For example, in Ontario, the Sunshine List is published, where you can see that many teachers and public servants earn over 100,000 dollars a year. But at the beginning, it’s better to plan based on the numbers we mention.

Let’s start with a surprise.

A truck driver can earn up to 80,000 a year. Just imagine — you can move to Canada without a diploma at all. Long-haul drivers are especially needed in Alberta, where there is oil, in Manitoba, where there is agriculture, and in Saskatchewan. The only requirement is Canadian driver’s licenses of a special category. Russian or Ukrainian licenses won’t work here. But many employers pay for the training themselves. We’ve even seen job postings saying: “Come, we’ll teach you everything.”

Next.

A plumber can earn up to 85,000 a year. Do you know how much it costs to call a plumber in Toronto? 150 dollars just for the visit. There is more than enough work. However, you need a Red Seal certificate — it’s like a license for skilled trades in Canada. But we know many people start working as assistants without this requirement.

An electrician can earn up to 90,000. The Red Seal is also required here. But here’s what’s interesting: many employers are ready to hire someone with experience and help with certification, especially during the construction boom in British Columbia. In general, we see construction everywhere across many provinces.

Now let’s talk about IT specialists. This is where the real magic begins.

A software developer can earn from 80,000 to 120,000. In Toronto and Vancouver, the bar is even higher. The main advantage: no licenses are required. You have a GitHub with projects — welcome aboard. Programmers should understand us right now.

A cybersecurity specialist can earn up to 130,000. After all the hacking attacks, demand has skyrocketed. Certificates like CCP are valued but not mandatory.

A UX/UI designer can earn up to 95,000. We recommend preparing a strong Behance portfolio. Canadian companies love beautiful interfaces. And honestly, Canada lags behind many of our countries in this area, so there is plenty of room to grow.

A data analyst earns up to 100,000. Python, SQL, a bit of machine learning — and you’re in. Banks, insurance companies, even the government — everyone is looking for such people.

Now let’s move to medical professions. This is where the craziest money is.

A nurse can earn from 72,000 to 105,000. In Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta they are literally shouting: “Help!” Provincial immigration programs specifically highlight nurses as a top priority.

A medical laboratory technologist earns up to 80,000. After COVID, demand went through the roof.

And here it is — the profession with the most insane salary.

A general practitioner can earn from 280,000 dollars a year. Some family doctors earn even more — 400,000. There is practically no ceiling.

But here comes the “but” we mentioned at the beginning.

Canada has a severe shortage of doctors. In some cities, people wait years for a family doctor. It seems like you could just come and start earning huge money, but the Canadian medical system is built like a fortress.

Next occupation is doctor. To work as a doctor, you must go through a process that can take 3 to 5 years, or even longer, and cost 50,000 or even 100,000 dollars. First, diploma verification. Then exams. Then residency all over again.

Many doctors from CIS countries give up after one or two years and work in pharmacies, caregiving, or change professions entirely. Because fighting the Canadian system without support is like climbing Everest without equipment. But if you are ready for this marathon, the road is open, and provincial programs invite such candidates first.

By the way, our family doctor is a Russian-speaking woman from Ukraine, so everything is possible.

And we want to immediately brag about our clients’ achievements. For example, we recorded an interview with a large family from Israel. At first, the woman worked as a caregiver, but she managed to obtain a nursing license fairly quickly and now works in a hospital. We are currently preparing documents for their permanent residence application.

Moving on to engineers. They can earn from 75,000 to 110,000 a year. Alberta and Saskatchewan are being built up like crazy right now — infrastructure projects, oil refining. Attention: to sign off on projects, you need a special license, but you can start working under supervision.

A heavy equipment operator earns up to 75,000 a year. Excavators, bulldozers, cranes — if you know how to operate them, you’ll find work anywhere. Training is often provided on the job.

An auto mechanic can earn up to 75,000. With electric vehicles, demand for specialists is growing even more. Many dealerships provide additional training themselves. When we were in Vancouver, we were simply amazed by the number of hybrids and electric cars.

A financial analyst can earn up to 90,000. In Toronto, the financial capital of Canada, there is a shortage of such specialists. CPA certification is desirable, but you can start without it.

A marketer earns up to 95,000. Digital marketers with experience in Google Ads and Facebook are especially valued. These specialists are in extremely high demand.

An HR specialist can earn up to 85,000 a year. With company growth, HR professionals have become gold — and gold has risen sharply in price. So take advantage of that. Knowledge of Canadian labor law is a big plus, and you can start studying it even before arriving in Canada. There are many online courses.

A logistics specialist earns up to 80,000. Vancouver has the largest port. On the west coast, and through Toronto, all trade with the U.S. flows. We recently ordered a birthday gift for our brother and saw through the tracking that it was delivered from the U.S. Supply chains are the nervous system of the economy.

A teacher can earn up to 95,000. Teachers of math, physics, chemistry, and French are especially needed. In Quebec, knowledge of French is paid extra.

A care worker earns up to 55,000. Canada is aging, and more nursing homes are being built. Training is often provided directly on the job. Several of our clients found work in this field.

And the final surprise.

A cook can earn up to 65,000 a year. The restaurant business is recovering after the pandemic, and there is a catastrophic shortage of good chefs. No license is required — just skilled hands. When we scroll through our relative’s Instagram in Poland, we are amazed by the sushi masterpieces he creates. We’ve rarely seen that in Canada.

So, these were 20 professions that can change your life.

And most importantly, even if your profession isn’t on this list, don’t rush to get upset. Canada has over 120 immigration programs and streams. Sometimes it matters less what you do, and more how old you are, what your English level is, what education you have, and whether you have relatives in Canada.
