U.S. visa update for Nigerians
Hey friends, quick heads up. If you're planning a trip to the US and you're from Nigeria, the US government just changed the visa rules for Nigerians — and it's a big shift.
In the past, if you got a non-immigrant visa — so that's for things like visiting or attending a conference — you could usually get a 5-year visa, and you could stay in the US for up to 6 months each time you visited.
But starting now, as of today, July 8th, 2025, most Nigerians will only get a three-month visa.
And it's a single-entry visa. What does that mean? It means that you can only enter for one visit, one time — with a maximum stay of 3 months. No more going in and out with the same visa.
Yep, it's a major difference from what it used to be.
And just in case again you're wondering: what is a non-immigrant visa? This is a temporary travel visa — so think about things like B1/B2 — you know, for tourism, medical care, business trips.
And then for those of you who already had a visa that was issued before July 8th, you don't need to worry — yours will still work exactly as it did before. This is only for those after July 8th.
The US says this is a part of a global review process, and they’re working with Nigeria to bring things up to certain security and travel standards. So hopefully this change won't last forever.
